From High School Online Collaborative Writing
[edit] Richard Stohlman
I've been working for the New York City Dept. of Education since 1989. I spent a semester in a large school which has since been closed and then jumped to Satellite Academy - a small sound alternative school where students and teachers were empowered to actually focus on student needs and creating a learning community. It gave me a solid grounding of what the small school movement is meant to be and how far from that the present small school build out is. The small school movement has become victim of its success (thank you Mr. Gates and crew).
Personally, I've worked as a high school math teacher and technology coordinator and coach. I am now working at Landmark High School and Coalition School of Social Change and am looking forward to the era when The Department of Education rediscovers the need for and opens a whole new network of alternative schools.
Articles I'm working on.
