So, during the 1870s and 1880s the supreme court failed to overturn the poll tax or the grandfather clause even though the laws undermined all federal protections for the Africans Americans civil rights. The racial rules were put into efffect in schools, hospital, parks, and transportation system through out the south. Marriages and religion were both segregated by race. Thurgood Marshall and the NAACP were among the few who chipped away at the jim crow laws to stop segregation.
