This is "The Destruction of Roehamton Estate in the Parish of St. James in January 1832", fire in the mill yard on the center. The slave village is on the upper right. This picture is from Jamaica (London, 1825). This plantation was burned during the slave rebellion of 1832. On Tuesday February 14,1832 slaves went against their masters. The slaves would go and burn down there master buildings and houses. But, troops were called to broke this attack. Some people who didn't follow to stop this attack would get shot by the troops. Thats when martial law came. the vessel who waited on port wasn't allow to board the ship. When it was sailing they saw the somewhere they were fire. When that happen the caption of the ship said that there was mad women looking for refuge.
People should care about this image, because it can teach you a lesson. You should not be one of these people or else you will suffer or deal with conquences for what you've done. I think this image is important because it show the other slaves who being punish can do something to try and seek freedom. Also, its important because it show us that when we being punish we should fight and do something to not be controled by others. To not let them control your life or faith. Its your our life so I think we can choice our own destiny.
