What is this?Edit
In this picture there are a bunch of naked black men and women on the bottom of the boat. In the fore ground there are 8 people on the floor laying down with hands on their heads or laying on there stomaches. One lady is sitting up though with her baby in her hands. In the back there are a couple of black men sitting on the floor near a pole like object and there is one black man standing up with a bowl in his hand receiving water from someone in the upper deck of boat. There are bunks on the side of boat which some guys are also laying on naked. Then to the right of pic it looks like an African American has just died and 3 Whites are about to carry him out.
What do we know about it?Edit
We know that there are women, children, and men below deck of a ship with European sailors guarding. We know that these slaves being sailed overseas for trade were shackled. They were chained so that they couldn't move. They were all naked on the ship the whole ride. We know that some of the slaves had to lay on the dirty wooden floor, while others were on a wooden bunk. This was also probably dirty but better than the floor. According to the Wikipedia article on Black history in Puerto Rico " Many of the slaves came from Puerto Rico, Congo, Ashanti, Yoruba, and Bantu tribes."
